Here is the Webster definition of a domain as it pertains to the internet. ??
Domain: a subdivision of the Internet consisting of computers or sites usually with a common purpose (such as providing commercial information) and denoted in Internet addresses by a unique abbreviation (such as com for commercial sites or gov for government sites)

Now, what does this mean to you? Owning your domain is a key step in protecting your brand. My domain for this website is uzomaobasi.com. It is literally my name. No one can go out and buy my name and use it for themselves. The same goes for your company. Below are my top three reasons on why you should invest in a domain:

Price
When you go to sites like GoDaddy to buy your domain they will give you a deal on your first year. You pay 99 cents. If protecting your brand is not worth 99 cents then we need to have another conversation. To renew for another year is normally around $20. Still not bad.

Email
Every time I see someone promoting their business and their businesses¬†email is @gmail.com or @yahoo.com oh and my favorite @hotmail.com I cringe. When you purchase your domain you’re now able to use that domain to create a professional email address that really shows who you are. Right now with GoDaddy’s Office 365 email package I pay around $5/month and I believe they have packages for even less ?

Website
Now you may not be quite there yet but in 2017 you should really think about it. Having a professional website for your business is a time saver. Instead of spending countless hours giving out information to people who may or may not be interested in your product/service your website is there to give out that info and collect qualified leads. Make sure you are 100% ready for this step in your business because a good website can be helpful but a bad website will lose you business.

Now I could go on and on about why you need to go buy your domain but I will let you make the decision after these three big reasons. As always if you have questions shoot me an email at Uzoma@minnesotabcc.org
